February 2010 - First Aid Courses at Kensey Training are HSE registered and approved

The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide suitable first-aid equipment, facilities and personnel to enable immediate assistance to be given to employees if they are injured or become ill at work. Regulation 3(2) states that in order to provide first aid to injured or ill employees, '..a person shall not be suitable unless he has undergone -

  1. such training and has such qualifications as the Health and Safety Executive may approve for the time being in respect of that case or class of case, and

  2. such additional training, if any, as may be appropriate in the circumstances of that case'

If you have identified that first-aiders are needed in your workplace, they must have a valid certificate of competence in FAW or emergency first aid at work (EFAW). EFAW training enables a first-aider to give emergency first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill while at work. FAW training includes EFAW and also equips the first-aider to apply first aid to a range of specific injuries and illnesses.

FAW courses involve at least 18 hours of training and are run over three days.
EFAW lasts for at least six hours of training and is usually run over one day. Kensey Training is approved by and registered with HSE to provide this training.

FAW and EFAW certificates last for three years. Before their certificates expire, first-aiders will need to undertake an FAW requalification course or an EFAW course, as appropriate, to obtain another three-year certificate.

HSE strongly recommends that first-aiders undertake annual refresher training, during any three-year FAW/EFAW certification period. Although not mandatory, this will help qualified first-aiders maintain their basic skills and keep up to date with any changes to first-aid procedures. We at Kensey Training provide refresher courses.

If you would like further information on any of our HSE approved First Aid training then please contact us

2009 - KENSEY TRAINING CELEBRATES 40 YEARS

1969 - 2009

Kensey Training has more than one reason to celebrate. Not only are they celebrating their
40th year of providing training courses, initially in and around Launceston but now throughout Devon and Cornwall, but also it is a year since the business was taken over by Mel Philps and Derek Gane, with the move to new premises at Tregaller Works, South Petherwin. Mel and Derek have been working for Kensey Training for a number of years and are ably assisted by their administrator, Sandra Smale, and new clerical assistant, Maria Philps.

The premises are located about one mile from the Pennygillam Roundabout in Launceston and there are plenty of parking spaces. Being on the Devon and Cornwall border and close to the A30, Kensey Training is easily accessible from all points of the compass.

The strength of Kensey Training lies in the fact that they offer a wide range of short courses which are open to everyone at really competitive prices, some of which have remained unaltered for a few years. Additionally they have excellent facilities in which to deliver their classroom based courses, but are also willing to come to any employer, group or organisation if that is more convenient. Such courses include First Aid, Health and Safety, Food Safety and Manual Handling. The full range of chainsaw courses, pesticide, forklift, brushcutter, tractor driving, vehicle and trailer, and transport of animals courses are all completed on site, wherever they are needed.

As accredited training providers working in partnership with Duchy College, Kensey Training deliver courses which carry nationally recognised qualifications e.g. NPTC, CIEH and Lantra.

Kensey Training offer generous discount on all their courses, ranging from £5 to £50 per person and will run special price reductions throughout the year.
